Cerimónia de outorga do grau Doutor Honoris Causa ao Professor António Marcos Galopim de Carvalho e a Chan Meng Kam.

Nota Biográfica| António Marcos Galopim de Carvalho

 

A. M. Galopim de Carvalho (1931-), professor catedrático jubilado, doutorou-se em Sedimentologia (Universidade de Paris, 1964), e em Geologia, (Universidade de Lisboa, 1968). Leccionou na Faculdade Ciências Lisboa, (1961-2001) e na Faculdade Letras Lisboa (1965-1981).

Dirigiu o Museu Nacional de História Natural, de 1992 a 2003, onde foi o responsável de sucessivos projectos de investigação científica.

Assinou vasta bibliografia científica, de divulgação e de ficção, com três dezenas de livros publicados e cerca de centenas de artigos em revistas científicas e jornais.

1994 Prémio Bordalo da Ciência.

1995 Prémio Conservação da Natureza (Quercus).

1997 Prémio Nacional do Ambiente (Autarquias).

2000 Medalha de Ouro da Cidade de Évora.

2002 Patrono do Agrupamento de Jardins de Infância e Escolas Professor Galopim de Carvalho, de Queluz.

2003 Prémio Prestígio “Mais Alentejo” (Ciência).

2006 Prémio APOM (Melhor Personalidade na Área da Museologia).

2008 Medalha de Ouro do Município de Ourém.

2012 Patrono do Museu do Quartzo, em Viseu.

2013 Grande Prémio Ciência Viva.

2013 Patrono da Escola Básica Galopim de Carvalho, em Évora.

2016 Medalha Municipal de Mérito Científico, da CM Lisboa.

2017 Prémio Envelhecimento Activo, da APP.

2018 Medalha de Mérito “Ciência”, do Ministério da Ciência Tecnologia e Ensino Superior.

Short Biography| Chan Meng Kam

Born in Fujian and brought up in Macau, Mr. Chan Meng Kam has become one of the most influential statesman and businessmen in Macau. Over the past three decades, Mr. Chan has rendered remarkable social services to the people and communities in Macau, China and around the world. He served as Legislator of the Legislative Assembly of Macau in 2005-2017 and has been a member of National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference for four conservative terms.

Mr. Chan has been playing a lead role in support of higher education. In September 2010, he transformed the University of East Asia that was established in 1981 into the City University of Macau and has served as Chairman of the University Council since then. Under his leadership, the University has undergone a solid and fast growth in the past eight years.

Mr. Chan is also a philanthropist who spares no effort to serve the residents in Macau and China with charitable activities. He has been contributing generously to various community services and over 200 charitable organizations in Macau. Moreover, he has been providing support funds to a number of schools over ten provinces and cities, and assistance and emergency financial aids for the elderly and the underprivileged. In addition, he founded the non-profit Chan Meng Kam Caring Supermarket and the Chan Meng Kam Foundation to carry out his mission of “giving back to society”.

Mr. Chan’s services to society also extends to promoting the preservation of cultural heritage in Macau. He is the founder of the annual “A-Ma Cultural & Tourism Festival” and Chairman of Executive Committee of the Goddess A-Ma Foundation of Macau. He has been working with the local community to promote inheritance and development of the traditional culture in Macau.
